The Mirin Medical Practice has adopted a Signposting Service, which will be operated by our trained staff

  • Minor injuries Unit

Your local MIU can treat you if you have:

  • Cuts and wounds (including those that may need stitches)
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Sprains, minor injuries or broken bones – in legs below the knee, and arms below the shoulder, where you can bear the weight through your foot or move your fingers (our experienced staff can arrange x-rays and apply plaster if required)
  • Insect bites or other animal bites
  • Tetanus immunisation after an injury
  • Minor head injury – where there has been no loss of consciousness or vomiting, and no residual symptoms i.e. headache, nausea, visual disturbance, dizziness or any other symptom of concussion
  • Removal of foreign bodies from eyes, nose or ears
  • Nose injuries and broken noses
  • Removal of rings, earrings and studs.
  • Under 1-year-olds: Go to the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow, Emergency Department
  • 1 to 5-year-olds: Go to either the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, Inverclyde Royal Hospital in Greenock or the Vale of Leven Minor Injury Unit
  • 5 to 15-year-olds: Go to the nearest Minor Injury Unit. Minor Injury Units are located within the Emergency Departments of Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and Inverclyde Royal Hospital in Greenock
  • Over 16-years-olds and adults: Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley. There is also a dedicated Minor Injury Unit at the Vale of Leven Hospital.

We ask all patients if you are experiencing any of the above that you contact 111 in the first instance who will assist you with the correct action

  • Can my pharmacist help me?

The Pharmacy First Service allows patients to access FREE advice and / or treatment for anyone with impetigo and adult women (between the ages of 16-65) .

  • Found out you are pregnant?

If you are newly pregnant you no longer need to speak to the doctor first, you can book online for your first midwife appointment.

Anyone requiring antenatal services is being asked to visit www.nhsggc.scot/meetyourmidwife.  This will link you to complete a simple online form, and you will receive your first appointment with a midwife via post.

Previously women would need to call the Central Booking Office phone line to register which is 0141 232 4005 – this line will remain active for now.

To complete this form you will also need to make sure your full name and address match what we have here on the surgery system otherwise it may not link up.

There is also a number to call to speak with maternity to discuss your options 0141 211 8620. This is available Monday-Friday 8.30 – 4.30.

 

  • Is it a problem with your eyes?

If you have any problems with your eyes/vision this should be treated by your local optometrist. All high street opticians have an optometrist who provides free NHS services to all UK residents living in Scotland and can advise you on any required treatment that may be needed. Just approach or call your local opticians where they will triage your problem and arrange the appropriate treatment or an appointment.

  • Problem with your mouth/teeth?

For advice on abscesses, gum problems or toothache please contact your dentist. If you are not registered with a dentist, please phone the Emergency Dental Treatment Centre on 0141 232 6823 or 111 if it is out of office hours.

  • Do you need more medication, have a query regarding your medication, or require a sick line?

If your medication is on repeat prescription, or you have had the medicine recently you can request this online or by phoning the surgery (and pressing option 1) without an appointment.

Needing a sick line? You can “self -certify” for the first week of your illness. Your employer can supply this form, or you can complete one online by clicking here.

For a repeat sick line you do not always need an appointment for this. Simply speak to one of our receptionists so they can help you.

 

  • Chest infection / Skin complaint / Ear irritation / Throat infection?

Our nurse practitioner Paula can diagnose and treat a variety of ailments, please contact the surgery to book.

 

  • Stitches removal / Dressing or wound management / Injection / Ear syringing

Various treatments and appointments previously seen at the surgery are now done in the community at a ‘treatment room’.

There are various locations of treatment rooms around Renfrewshire these include: Glenburn Health Centre, Renfrew Health Centre, Back Sneddon Street, Northcroft (Tues/Thurs), Tannahill Centre, Johnstone Health Centre and Linwood Health Centre.

  • Foot problem / Ingrown nail

Podiatry now has a self-referral phone number for patients, please call 0141 347 8909 to speak with a clinician who will triage your problem.

  • Physiotherapy

Please click on the following link for a physiotherapy self referral form. This can be completed and returned to the surgery.

  • Children with Speech or language concerns 

If you are a parent or guardian in Renfrewshire with concerns over a child communication or movement then you can call the Renfrewshire Therapy Advice and Support Line directly without any need to speak to the GP, health visitor or school first.

When you call you will be able to speak with a speech and language therapist or physiotherapist about your concerns.

For Speech and Language lines are open Monday & Friday Between 11am and 1pm.

For Physiotherapy lines are open on a Tuesday between 11 and 1pm.

You can also call if you work with children and would like to talk to a therapist for advice – same number as above but on a Wednesday between 11am and 1pm

  • Employability / benefits / housing / financial issues ? 

The Practice has a link worker, Pauline kankolongo and advice worker Silvia Campbell  who can support you to access a wide range of activities and resources in your local community.

Examples of support include; Benefits/housing advice and appeals, Social Security benefit forms, Tax Credit enquires and Claims, Debts (eg rent, council tax and fuel), NHS cost forms (HC1),  Physical activity and stamina development, Mental wellbeing and support, Carers advice, Volunteering/Employability, Ask about this service at Reception and to make an appointment.

  • Need advice on travel vaccinations?

All vaccinations including travel vaccines are completed out with the practice. NHSGGC patients travelling abroad are advised to check Fit for Travel prior to contacting NHSGGC on: E-Mail: ggc.VaccinationContactCentre@ggc.scot.nhs.uk or call: 0800 9176115

This service will appoint the patient for a Travel Health Risk Assessment, advice and any vaccinations required will be given. There are 4 Travel Vaccinations available as part of NHS provision: DTP, Typhoid, Hepatitis A and Cholera. Any other vaccinations will incur a fee. We ask that where possible patients give as much notice as possible for travel vaccinations requesting a minimum of 14 working days notice.
