How to book a GP appointment

Firstly please check our helpful Signposting / Self help page to see if you require a GP appointment or if there are other more suitable services available to you.

Which doctor do you normally see?

It’s best to try and keep with the same doctor, but if you cannot book your usual GP, any of our GPs can help you.

Do you need to see the GP in person or speak to them on the phone?

For example, to discuss your medication, a telephone appointment is best. If you have an ailment you need the GP to examine, a face to face appointment is best.

How urgent is my problem?

Pre-bookable Appointments

If you have a problem that can wait, you can phone the surgery anytime and pre-book the appointment with your GP. This can be done up to 4 weeks in advance meaning you do not need to ring at 8am.

If you feel your problem is urgent and cannot wait until the next available pre-bookable appointment, you will need to ring at 8am on that day and book an on the day appointment, but please note you may not get a choice in which GP you will see. Also please keep in mind the later you call the surgery the fewer appointments will be available, and so you may be asked to try again at 8am the following day.

On the Day Appointments

Every day there are appointments which are released at 8am day. The phone lines go over at 8am and these appointments are available from then.

If your problem is “minor” (for example cough/cold, earache, headache etc) you may be offered an appointment with our Advanced Nurse Practitioner Paula McKenna who is running clinics most mornings.  As a Nurse Prescriber, Sister McKenna will be able to diagnose and issue prescriptions accordingly.

Our receptionists are extremely busy answering calls at this time in the morning, so your patience is much appreciated

If I cannot make my appointment/answer the phone at the time arranged, what should I do?

Please ring the surgery and inform the receptionist, who will cancel the appointment and rearrange it for another day.  However, If you ring up after your appointment time, this will be already marked as a “did not attend” on your file. Too many of these “DNAs” can risk you being removed from the list. This is the same for both face to face and telephone appointments, so it is always best to ring up to cancel in plenty of time.
